Research summary
The aim of this study is to investigate how point of care ultrasound images taken in both gynaecology and early pregnancy settings compare to routine ultrasound with high end/high resolution machines. This will include looking at the concordance of what structures can be seen, and where they are seen how the measurements correlate.
Point of care Ultrasound use in high, middle and low resource settings is increasing however guidelines are currently based on transvaginal ultrasound. By comparing what can be seen between the two we can also see whether current guidelines can be applied to POCUS. Previous small studies with earlier machines have shown relatively good concordance and correlation in early pregnancy and moderate in gynaecology.
Anomonysed images will also be used for machine learning for POCUS. This will particularly be useful where these machines may be used in more remote areas with non expert scanners.
The study will recruit patients from the early pregnancy units at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the Gynaecology Outpatient clinics or Gynaecology wards. The participants will have an additional ultrasound with the POCUS device which is being used within its intended purposes and there will be no randomisation.
