  • Data collection arrangements

Patients with the diagnosis of mantle cell lymphoma and related diseases will be invited to donate a small amount of their blood and biopsy tissues for research .

We aim to collect biological samples and clinical data from patients to enhance our understanding of mantle cell lymphoma and related lymphoproliferative disorders. With this data and material we hope to improve out understanding in the cellular pathways, how the cancerous cells grow and divide and how they respond to different treatments. We also hope to develop better diagnostic and prognostic tests, and in time better treatment and treatment approaches. Research will be translational and disease specific.

Patients will be invited to participate in this research and will have an opportunity to discuss the research with the team. Patients will be provide with an information sheet and written consent will be taken before any data or material is taken.

Histological materials will be stored in the histopathology laboratory at Derriford Hospital and pseudo-anonymised peripheral blood and bone marrow cells will be stored at the University of Plymouth Medical School Research Laboratory in fully monitored storage facilities.
Development of this data base and tissue bank will enable essential research in these lymphoproliferative disorders.

  • Research programme

The research programme supported by the bank will be primarily based at the University of Plymouth, Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research and Derriford Hospital. It will be conducted by the Haematology Research Group at Plymouth of which Dr Claire Hutchinson is the Chief Investigator and Laboratory Research Lead. The main focus will be translational research in mantle cell lymphoma and lymphoproliferative disorders (cancers of the white cells like lymphoma) so to enhance our biological understanding of these disorders, translating into developing new or improved diagnostic and prognostic tests and treatments.
