Research summary
This is an observational study of the clinical features and treatment outcomes at our centre for patients with a rare skin cancer called Pleomorphic Dermal Sarcoma. This is a skin cancer that usually presents in the elderly on sun-exposed skin and was previously defined using other names (e.g. Atypical Fibroxanthoma, or Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma). Two other centres have published their data from retrospective case series since 2012 when the term Pleomorphic Dermal Sarcoma was defined. As UCLH is a specialist centre for treating Sarcoma, we manage a large amount of patients with this rare tumour. There is little published data about the clinical features, management and outcomes of this tumour, and further studies are required to improve the scientific communities understanding of the optimum treatment strategy and outcomes for patients with this tumour.
Eligible patients would be all patients diagnosed with this skin cancer and managed at our centre. The study will be observational and retrospective reviewing data already collected in the course of the patient's previous treatment. The study will only be conducted at U.C.L.H NHS trust. The patients included in the study will not require additional treatment or consultation on behalf of the study.
