Research summary
The project is primarily based on thromboelastography, this is a single test and will be applied to routine samples. The samples are from patients whom attend the haematology clinic frequently due to a low platelet count. This can occur due to the ongoing haematological disorder the patients have, due to the severe low platelet count these patients have to attend regular appointments for platelet transfusions. This test is qualitative and can indicate how well the platelets function at low levels prior to any transfusion of platelets this will show if the transfusions of the platelets are required. There is no direct benefit to participants taking part in this research and consent will be sought only if the participants wish to take part they can opt out at any point of this research, all issues that may arise will be covered within the patient information sheet but also the clinical team along with myself will be available at all times to ensure all queries and issues are dealt with in a prompt and professional manner.
