Research summary
Title; Prevention of Lymphoedema after Clearance by External Compression (PLACE) Qualitative Sub-Study
This is a sub-study for PLACE; a trial for ladies who have experienced 4%- 9% arm swelling following axillary node clearance surgery as part of their breast cancer treatment.
The PLACE trial is not recruiting as many patients as we thought it would; the aim of the qualitative study is to find out why. We will do this by using the following methods;
Patients who were approached to take part in the PLACE trial will be interviewed by the University of Manchester researchers with the aim of finding out why they did or didn't decide to take part in the study.
Interactions between eligible patients and staff with be observed by a University of Manchester researcher during the approach for the PLACE trial.
Staff who are involved in the PLACE trial will be interviewed by the University of Manchester researcher or will attend focus groups to discuss the PLACE trial.
We aim to run this sub-study in several of the sites that run the main PLACE trial. We hope the study will start in June and last for a year.
