Data collection arrangements
PIONEER will store health data which relates to unplanned health care contacts, called acute care. Acute care is any unplanned health care contact. Acute care includes presentations of any cause (medical or surgical, trauma, paediatrics or women’s health) to any acute healthcare provider, from community services to hospitals.
PIONEER will collect and securely store linked, de-identified acute care health data from multiple health data providers to understand how, when and why patients use acute care, to help develop services to improve patient outcomes and choice.
Research programme
PIONEER is supported by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Birmingham and other regional and national acute care providers. Public and patient inout is provided by the Data Trust Committee, who review and support data access requests. PIONEER is funded by Health Data Research-UK.
