  • Research summary

The aim of this study is to find out from children, young people and their parents what they think about the national paediatric lymphoedema service .
This study will involve interviews with parents and with children aged 7-11 years, 12 -15 years and young people aged 16 to 25 years. Interviews will take place in the family home across Wales and the option to be interviewed in the Welsh Language will be offered. This is a family-centred qualitative study which will use semi-structured interviews to find out their views, opinions and experiences of the care they receive from the service. Twenty families whose child receives the service will be invited to take part by the paediatric lymphoedema lead who will leave bilingual information leaflets with families and children and young people for them to consider participation. The information leaflets will include assent to participate, and consent forms and parents, children and young people will contact the research team of directly or the paediatric lymphoedema lead if they wish to participate .Interviews with children and young people and ther parents will take one hour. For children aged 7- 11 years play materials such as, fuzzy felt, drawings and creative play will be use so they can tell their stories of care and give their views and opinions too. All interviews with children, young people and their parents will be tape recorded and all art work from children aged 7-11 years will be photographed. Thematic analysis of all this data will identify their views, opinions and experiences , all of which will help inform providers of this service and should develop and improve current provision.
