Research summary
Why?
PICASSO is an exploratory translational study in prostate cancer, aiming to:
- Improve diagnosis and relapse detection.
- Identify patients who may benefit from additional treatments before/after surgery.
- Discover biomarkers to guide treatment and improve outcomes.
This research addresses critical gaps in prostate cancer care, with the overall goal of improving patients outcomes by informing more precise diagnostics and treatments.
What?
The study focuses on prostate cancer and investigates biomarkers, pharmacotherapies, and treatment strategies.
Who?
Men aged 16+ at any stage of their prostate cancer journey or that do not have prostate cancer but are considered adequate control cases.
Where?
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUHFT).
How?
PICASSO collects samples with the aim of answering focused predefined research questions using various samples (blood, urine, tissue, semen) and clinical information.
These are examined using standard and advanced technologies in Cambridge and through collaborators.
The study runs alongside standard clinical care or other research studies, allowing real-time translational research at key points in a patient’s cancer journey. Retrospective data and samples will also be utilized to enable long-term follow-up and further research.REC name
