Research summary
This study seeks to compare the physiological characteristics of elite Taekwondo athletes with those of development Taekwondo athletes and to observe how these characteristics change across the course of a typical Taekwondo season in order to understand which physiological determinants are important for success in this sport. Taekwondo athletes and coaches will then be able to identify specific areas for development in order to improve and increase their chances of success. This study will investigate members of the GB Taekwondo team as well as members of the development team and the study will be conducted at the National Taekwondo Centre and at Liverpool John Moores University. Participants will undergo a testing battery to determine their body composition, strength, power and anaerobic and aerobic fitness three times over the course of a Taekwondo competition season.
