Research summary
People diagnosed with psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (also referred to as psychosis) are often diagnosed with multiple long-term physical health conditions (e.g., diabetes), which may contribute to the reduced life expectancy observed in this population. This is termed multimorbidity and is defined as the co-existence of two or more physical health conditions. The objective of this study is to explore the lived experience and professional perspectives of physical multimorbidity among people with psychosis, focusing on psychosocial risk. This will be achieved by conducting one-to-one interviews with East London residents living with psychosis and multimorbidity, as well as by running focus groups with healthcare professionals working with the patient population of interest. The findings will be used to inform clinical practice to improve the care and quality of life of individuals living with psychosis and multimorbidity.
