  • Research summary

Previous research has shown that children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) are at a 480% increased risk of hospital admission compared to children without T1D. This study plans to utilise the Brecon Cohort (a database of >97% of all children diagnosed with T1D in Wales) to conduct biological phenotyping of children with T1D to identify children who will benefit most from early immunotherapeutic intervention to preserve beta cell function.
This study will be a feasibility study to determine the optimal approach of recruiting children and young adults with T1D from the Brecon Cohort. It will also investigate the ease at which biological sampling can be conducted and which approach children and young adults prefer; clinic sampling, home sampling or a combination of the two.
