Research summary
This research, undertaken as part of a Social Science in Healthcare Research Masters aims to Explore patients’ views on the implementation of pharmacogenomic testing to support tacrolimus prescribing in adult renal transplant recipients using focus groups and will be used as a proof of concept study for future research in the area.
Pharmacogenomic testing is an intervention that considers a patients genetics when prescribing a medicine. By doing so, treatment outcomes may be improved by increasing effectiveness and reducing side-effects associated with the medicine.
Using focus groups this project will be used as a proof of concept study for future research in the area.Patients will be identified via the lead researcher/study co-ordinator who is also a member of the renal transplant clinical team at Leeds Teaching Hospital where the participants will be recruited from.
2 focus groups will be conducted, consisting of 5-6 participants and the responses analysed using reflective thematic analysis.
