Research summary
This qualitative research project will utilise interviews with both healthcare professionals and patients from the regional severe asthma clinic at the University Hospital of South Manchester. It will comprise structured 30 minute interviews focusing around four main questions. These aim to identify the outcomes people with severe asthma would hope to achieve by attending a patient education group, the topics they would like covered and how they would envisage a patient education group to run. We will also seek the opinions on the same topics from healthcare professionals from the wide range of disciplines involved in the care of severe asthma patients. This information will be used to guide future changes in the patient education programme, the impact of which can then be assessed by future service evaluations (beyond the current study).
