Research summary
A retrospective biospecimen collection will be undertaken to gather formalin fixed paraffin embedded samples from 45- 50 patients with proven peritoneal mesothelioma. These tissue samples will then be used to prepare tissue microarrays (TMAs). Sections from the constructed TMAs will be used to study the expression of the transcription factor C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP) as a disease progression marker for peritoneal mesothelioma. Once analysis of CHOP expression is completed the remaining TMA sections will be made available to other researchers.
The construction of TMAs allows for the analysis of a large number of specimens under the same conditions, thus enabling more accurate and efficient research to be undertaken. Hospital Pathology departments will refer cases of peritoneal mesothelioma by identifying and supplying suitable tissue specimens. The TMA will be constructed at a facility on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus that has existing expertise in this area. MesobanK will store and control access to the remaining TMA sections for future studies.
