Data collection arrangements
We propose the creation of this prospectively maintained perioperative medicine database of routinely collected clinical data as linking and analysis of data from different hospital systems (currently physically separate) might improve perioperative patient care and post-operative risk prognostication, together with improved shared decision making.
Data will be pooled at a central database location (stored at UHS) and primarily used to investigate the relationship between selected cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) variables, perioperative scoring e.g. frailty, sarcopenia, cachexia and in-hospital post-operative and survival outcomes after major surgery.
The creation of a prospectively maintained database/data bio-resource aims to consolidate and centralise routinely collected clinical data. This will aid future hypotheses generation, analyses and interrogation of clinically data in various patient cohorts with the primary aim to inform and enhance perioperative patient care at University Hospitals Southampton.
Research programme
These data that are aimed to be collected are all part of standard clinical care. The creation of a prospectively maintained database/data bio-resource aims to consolidate and centralise routinely collected clinical data to aid patient care, multidisciplinary team (MDT) decision making, perioperative decision making including pre-operative risk stratification. All data that is part of this data bio-resource will be fed back to the individual clinical teams via audit and MDT meetings
