Research summary
The aim of the study is to compare the results of the same minimally invasive surgical technique with or without the use of a regeneration material (emdogain) for the regeneration of bone lost by gum disease.
After diagnosis, standard non surgical treatment will be performed and if defects on the bone persist with indication for surgery, participants will be recruited for the study if inclusion criteria are met. At this stage consent form will be signed and baseline measurements will be taken, namely pocket depth, gum recession, level of oral hygiene. A radiograph will be taken for each defect at the beginning of the study. Participants will be recruited until 30 defects have been treated. All defects will be surgically approached with minimally invasive techniques. 15 defects will be treated without emdogain (intervention group) and 15 defects will be treated with emdogain (control group) according to the manufacturers instructions.
Follow up will include review appointments at week 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 and at month 6 and 12 following surgery. Measurements to monitor the results will be recorded at month 6 and 12.
Results will be analised and critically discussed.REC name
