  • Research summary

The Diabetic Kidney Centre (DKC) BioBank can identify samples already donated by Peritoneal Dialysis patients. The DKC IT staff will interogate the DKC-Registry to identify serial samples donated when patients did not have change to laxatives (Control Group) and those who donated after starting lactulose (a commonly used laxatives). We want to know if Gut Microbiome (bacteria) are stable in the Control patients and whether the is increase in "good" bacteria after starting lactulose which is a fermentable fibre. We can also extract blood already donated by these patients to see if changes in microbiome improves insulin resistance.
