Research summary
This application is for workstream 4 of a larger study that aims to explore how data on people's ability to pay for care could be collected. The project as a whole is being conducted on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), by Ipsos with support from the Care Policy Evaluation Centre (CPEC) at LSE. This application only relates to Workstream 4 of this project. Workstream 4 is conducted by Ipsos only and will involve 20 depth interviews and 20 cognitive testing interviews. These interviews will all be conducted with people with care and support needs, (unpaid) carers looking after a family member with care and support needs, and people who have Power of Attorney for the financial affairs of a family member with care and support needs. These interviews will explore the feasibility of conducting a survey with people with care needs and/or their family members to collect reliable data on their care needs, care history and how their care is paid for. The findings will help DHSC decide if a survey could be set up to collect these data. DHSC need robust and reliable information about these to understand the needs of care users and how well they are supported by the systems and policies in place.
