Research summary
A core goal of pain management programs is helping patients to better self-manage their conditions. There are undoubtedly many patients who are not able to maintain the benefits of the programme and continue to seek medical or surgical input after participation. Patient’s recall of the programme, their views on whether it met their needs, their confidence in applying its principles or their negative experiences of it has not been directly examined. This study aims to investigate these using qualitative research methodology. We will endeavour to correlate these with quantitative measures of programme outcomes to determine whether the quantitative outcome tools are a true reflection of change from the patients’ point of view. This research will help healthcare professionals better understand the factors that lead to failure in achieving or maintaining long term self-management.
This study will examine the self-reported experiences of patients who have completed a pain management program and have had at least six months of potential at-home pain management. on harm from programmes
