  • Research summary

Distal Enteral Tube Feeding (DETF) is a technique designed to optimise gut function in patients with compromised intestinal continuity, such as those with short bowel syndrome or post-surgical complications. This process involves introducing fluid and/or specialised enteral feed into the remaining distal gut via the distal lumen, thereby restoring continuity, aiming to improve nutrient absorption, enhance gut motility, and accelerate overall recovery. Usually DETF is a practice in Type 2 IF patients ,prior to reconstructive surgery aiming to restore the distal bowel function before surgery.
This study aims to identify the patient expectations, satisfaction and quality of life during the procedure by two time point qualitative interviews with a likert scale questionnaire, conducted by the doctor or a dietitian prior to the procedure and prior to discharge.Ultimately this study will help to understand patients perception on DETF procedure which will help to improve patient care.
