  • Research summary

There have been a limited number of studies which have examined patients’ views of the general practice pharmacist's (GPP) role in the United Kingdom (UK) and internationally. Additionally, all previous research performed within the UK has been in England which may have limited relevance to Northern Ireland (NI). A recent study which investigated the views of NI-based GPPs about their role has shown that just one-third of GPP participants thought that patients were aware of their activities within general practice.

Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate patients’ views of, and experiences with GPPs within general practice in NI. The research team plan to conduct semi-structured interviews with patients to explore their opinions and experiences with GPPs in NI.

It is hoped that this study will help to address the knowledge gap related to patients’ views of the GPPs in NI and will add to the body of knowledge related to this topic.
