Research summary
The aim of the study is to gain an insight into patients views on the risks and benefits of osteoporosis treatments. We propose to audit patients perceptions on their willingness to accept treatment by comparing responses when information on benefit of treatment is presented in two ways. One will present information on the potential benefits of treatment in the traditional way by informing patients on what kind of risk reduction they may expect with treatment. The second will present the information in the context of an absolute risk of fracture with and without treatment. Both forms of communication are frequently used in routine clinical practice but the present study aims to formally gather and collate information on whether their attitudes to treatment change when the information is presented in these two ways and to gain feedback on which form of presentation they find most helpful.
