Research summary
Pressure ulcer prevention remains a key priority area for the NHS and patient safety, with a focus around awareness and education. However despite campaigns around this topic, patient non-adherence remains a key area of concern in clinical practice, with adherence to skin care protocols often suboptimal particularly in community settings. To date there has been very little research focused around the patients own understanding of pressure ulcer risk in the context of their own daily lifestyles. The purpose of the research therefore is to investigate patient own perceptions of risk and potential factors affecting adherence (following advice) to pressure ulcer prevention strategies in community settings i.e. the persons own home.
The study design is exploratory and therefore an overall qualitative design has been chosen, with observations between healthcare professional and patient, together with patient interviews within the community setting itself.REC name
