Research summary
I propose a simple study designed to answer the following research question:
"Does information available to the public influence patient ideas and expectation?"
I aim to do this by distributing questionnaires to new patients attending ENT General clinic. The questionnaire identifies which media (if any) patients use to research their symptoms (eg. Internet, books, newspaper) and then asks them to state what they think their diagnosis might be.
I will then use this data to compare what the patient thinks their diagnosis is and what it actually is and see whether or not different information sources used have any influence on this. Eg, do patients who use the Internet to research their symptoms have a better idea of their diagnosis than those who use newspapers.
I also aim to work with a colleague in Stoke who will perform a similar project so we can correlate (anonymous) results.REC name
