    This study is aimed to explore the gap in knowledge surrounding patients experience of health promotion surrounded Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). The research objectives intended to explore patients’ views and understanding of the health promotion provided, whether they found it acceptable, beneficial and if there were any unintended effects that can help develop future intervention. Finally the research will try exploring any perceived impact of the health promotion on their diagnosis.

    Public Health England (2016) have documented that in 2015 30,658 people in England were diagnosed with HSV in England. Through reviewing the literature, there have been no UK studies exploring patient’s views of HSV health promotion, majority focusing on psychological distress and stigma associated with HSV. Through national and local guidelines it has been documented the importance health promotion to help reduce transmission, but we have not evaluated that the health promotion delivered and is it beneficial to patients. It has been well documented that within the NHS for patients to be more involved in their care and to help shape content and delivery. Through exploring patient experiences this study aims to help inform future practice for health professionals.

    The patients that would be included in the research would be:
    • Attendance to Jefferiss Wing St Mary's Hospital Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
    • Over 18,
    • Able to speak and read English with confidence
    • HSV diagnosis through clinical impression or swab testing,

    The study will take place in a central sexual health centre called the Jefferiss wing. Patients will be recruited from walk-in clinic or follow up clinics.

    Study will aim to recruit 10 participants. Participants will be asked to complete a semi-structured interview to explore their experiences of HSV health promotion.
