Research summary
This study will investigate the impact of the anaesthetic room, the standard site of anaesthetic induction in the UK, on patient experience, anxiety, and satisfaction of their anaesthetic care. Much debate around the use of anaesthetic rooms versus operating theatres for induction focuses on the stress and discomfort patients may experience from being induced in-theatre, however, much of this is based on perception rather than evidence.
This study is a three-part survey which evaluates patient preconceptions and expectations for their anaesthetic care, a comparison of patient anxiety levels between anaesthetic room or theatre induction, and a satisfaction survey pertaining to the environment in which the patient was induced.
