Research summary
In the United Kingdom, about 300 patients die each year, waiting for a kidney donation .
There and ways of supporting those with severe kidney disease but the best solution is using a healthy persons kidney and putting it in the person with kidney disease. this is called kidney transplantation. By knowing more about those who donate a kidney we may be able to make care better for these people. This may also go on to improve the service and support more healthy people to donate their kidneys. This may reduce the number of individuals waiting for a transplant.Aims and objectivesː To study the emotional and physical effect on those who have donated a kidney for transplant. Also to study to see if the support given by the centres where kidney donation take place is good enough in the opinion of the kidney donors.
Methodː
Those who are suitable for the study will be posted questionnaires, an information sheet about the study, an envelope and a consent form. If they chose to take part they will have to fill in the questionnaire and sign the consent form. They will then have to post the questionnaire and the consent form back in the envelope which is already addressed and stamped. The questionnaire will take about 20 minutes to fill in.Further information
Those who agree to take part, by sending back the questionnaire and consent form, will then have information collected from their hospital notes such as : how long they stayed in hospital after donation and any side effects.REC name
