Data collection arrangements
A review of medical records will be performed by the clinical team through a medical database at the Royal National orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Stanmore, London, UK, which are our primary recruiting sites. Retrospective data of patients with spine deformities will be considered by the clinical team for this study. The potential selected patient profiles will be invited to take part in this research database, a participant information sheet (PIS) followed by a consent form will be given to them. Data will be pseudo anonymized by the clinical team based at RNOH and given to the research team at UCL.
Research programme
The aim of this study is to improve spinal surgery by studying the medical images. Digital data of spinal deformities diagnosed patients are potential candidates for surgical treatment. In particular, we need to collect medical images pre- and post- surgery, such as X-ray, CT, 3D surface scans and MRI scans. Pre-surgical and post-surgical data will help us to understand the spinal deformities pathologies and the performance limits of existing devices and surgical techniques. Segmentation and other medical image treatment methods will be used to 3D reconstruct the patient’s anatomy. These digitally 3D reconstructed technologies will help patients who will be required to undergo surgical treatment. On one hand, will allow surgeons to plan the surgery and better visualize the non-visible portions of the spine, specially the abnormal anatomies.
