Research summary
This project is part of a larger research study which investigates the use of robotic tools to assist in the treatment of broken bones (fractures). This project seeks to identify what thoughts and concerns patients would have with the prospect of undergoing robotic assisted fracture surgery. We will ask them questions in an interview setting and record their responses. The aim is to recruit 20 patients from trauma clinics which have had a fracture.
We will also investigate the requirements of surgeons who will be the potential users of this technology. We will do this by carrying out interviews, and also asking them to take part in a study whereby they will use a variety of control mechanisms to understand which they feel most comfortable using and with which they can carry out the most efficient manoeuvres, to achieve the correct alignment of the fracture before fixing it in place. We aim to recruit 20 surgeons in total within a mixture of training grades.
