Research summary
This is an exploratory qualitative study, which aims to explore stakeholders’ views on the role of diet and nutrition in the management of the symptoms of psychosis. For the purposes of this arm of study, the term ‘Stakeholders’ refers to 2 groups of people related to the treatment of psychosis: i) ‘patients’; as defined by having lived experience of psychosis and ii) ‘carers’; as defined as individuals that have provided informal care for those experiencing psychosis.
This study will explore the views of patients and carers (approximately 15 per stakeholder group; the final number recruited will be guided by the principles of data saturation) on the role of nutrition for the management of psychosis symptoms. This will be explored through participation in individual semi-structured interviews conducted by the Lead Researcher, based in the School of Healthcare, University of Leeds. Stakeholders will be recruited from one NHS Trust (RDaSH NHS Foundation Trust). The findings will be reported in at least one journal article, one conference paper and will form part of a PhD thesis. These findings will be used to inform the development of an intervention for those with psychosis.
