Research summary
This research seeks the views of patients who are admitted to hospices and specialist palliative care units (SPCUs) regarding whether they would consider being involved in different types of clinical research.\n\nPatients who receive care in hospices and SPCUs are rarely given the opportunity to participate in research. This is partly because healthcare professionals worry that involvement in research studies would be too burdensome. However small studies have shown that patients would welcome the opportunity. Clinical research can take on many forms including questionnaires, interviews, medical investigations and treatments. Some patients may consider involvement in some types of research but not others. \n\nThis study seeks to establish the research interest of patients in 3 specialist palliative care units across the NE. These include 2 inpatient units, as well as 1 independent hospice. The results will be used to inform healthcare professionals about the research which patients may or may not be interested in, as well as enabling future research design to be supportive of patient preferences. \n
