Research summary
This piece of qualitative research will explore and evaluate the patients' perceptions of taking part in supportive post-weight loss surgery physical activity class.
It will comprise of at least ten semi-structured interviews lasting up to an hour with patients that have completed an established twelve week physical activity and education programme deisgned to support, motivate and increase physical activity levels following bariatric surgery. The interviews will take place within a private seminar room within the Homerton University Hospital.
The thoughts, opinions and feelings of the patients will be digitally recorded, transcribed and analysed using a grounded theory approach to obtain theories and learning from the patients' experience.
The data capture will last for a maximum of three months to ensure an adequate number interviews can be completed.
The study (including the full analysis, discussion and completion) will last ten months and will be submitted in September 2014 at the latest.
