Research summary
The aim of the study is to investigate the experience of individuals who have undergone wide-awake hand surgery without the use of a tourniquet. Data will be gathered through a one-hour semi-structured interview between the researcher and participant.
Individuals eligible for the study are adults who have undergone the approach for planned, elective hand surgery and are fluent in speaking English. Participants will be recruited from two secondary care centres where the approach is used. The study will last six (6) months.
By conducting the study and evaluating the findings recommendations can be made to refine and improve patient pathways and experience. Objectives that will be met are to:
• critically evaluate the experience of individuals who have undergone wide-awake elective hand surgery,
• synthesise the findings to generate new insights into the patient experience,
• generate recommendations for healthcare practitioners to improve the patient experience.REC name
