Research summary
The current study will involve semi-structured interviews with parents who have attended family interventions for their child who meets the At Risk Mental State (ARMS) criteria. This means that they have been identified as being more likely to go on to develop psychosis. Family interventions are currently recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines as the primary treatment, however, there has currently been no research exploring how families experience it. Participants will attend a semi-structured interview which is estimated to take between 40 and 60 minutes. The aim of the interviews will be to understand how this experience was for parents, including whether they perceived it to have an impact on the sense-making process of their child meeting the ARMS criteria or on family processes.
