Research summary
This research project will explore parent’s experiences and perceived impact of their child having non-invasive ventilation (NIV) on paediatric critical care has had on them. Children who require their breathing to be supported are commenced onto NIV. Having a child on intensive care and on ventilation is a difficult time for parents and carers, but there is little known about the experiences of the parents of these children during an admission for ventilation support. This study is aiming to recruit 10 sets of parents who will be identified within the direct care team who will put forward the appropriate parents of patients to take part. The study will be carried out using a mixed-method approach. Parents will be asked to take part in a 45 minute interview which will ask them about their experiences of their child being on NIV. There will also be a questionnaire for them to fill out which will ask them to reflect on how this experience has made them feel during day to day life.
