Research summary
This qualitative interview-based study aims to describe and understand parents’ experiences when their baby has died on a north west neonatal unit. Bereaved parents will be interviewed and asked to share their experiences of palliative, end of life care and support needs following the death of their baby. In the north west of England, care of parents following the death of a baby ranges from no supportive follow-up care to a designated support nurse and bereavement counsellor. There are no national guidelines or benchmarks for what is considered best practice or high quality care when supporting parents after their bereavement. This study aims to seek parents’ experiences and views on support mechanisms to inform practice and future service delivery.
