Research summary
The research will aim to address two main issues; firstly, what extent does the law (through cases) and the clinical guidelines take account of social, clinical and economic factors when deciding that it is in the best interests of a critically ill baby to withhold/withdraw treatment? Secondly, what is the experience of parents throughout the decision making process and how much weight do they feel is given to their views? The experiences of the parents throughout the decision making process will be important for the study to be able to offer recommendations for enhanced communication between parents and the medical team in the future.
Participants will be invited to take part in the study through completing an interview (either alone or with a partner) with the researcher to share their experiences.
