Research summary
This study is an implementation of an electronic palliative care plan that supports the care of palliative care patients and difficult conversations. This information will be shared electronically, in real-time across multiple organisations involved in care delivery for those patients at end of life. The implementation of this care plan is a dynamic process and the evaluation of this process will enable us to gain an understanding of the professional and organisational factors that promote or inhibit the acceptability, usefulness and integration into service delivery and everyday practice. This project aims to evaluate the implementation of this electronic palliative care plan and will incorporate a qualitative process evaluation and economic evaluation. The overall aim is to understand the factors that promote or inhibit the uptake, use and integration of the electronic palliative care plan for health and social care professionals delivering patient care at end of life. This evaluation will use qualitative methods specifically individual semi-structured interviews, focus groups and observational fieldwork to address this overall aim.
