Research summary
This study is designed to assess the feasibility of setting up a larger study. The primary aim of the study is: To investigate the demand and acceptability for a pharmacy run medicines clinic for the paediatric population attending North Middelsex University Hospital (NMUH). The secondary aim is to assess the implementation and practicalities of setting up such a service.
The study will recruit a maximum of 120 participants to attend a medicines clinic with a specialist paediatrics pharmacist. The pharmacist will assess the ability and comprehension of the parents/legal guardians and/or the child in terms of their treatment regimen. This assessment will identify any areas of need for the paediatrics service at NMUH to improve the outcomes of any treatments and minimise the risk of treatment failure.
The clinic will be followed by a telephone appointment after three months to assess the impact of the consultation with the pharmacist in terms of attaining maximum benefit from treatment regimens and minimising the risk of treatment plan failure.
