  • Data collection arrangements

Blood, urine and tissue samples will be collected from living organ donors or transplant recipients (who receive organs from living organ donors or deceased organ donors) at the Oxford Transplant Centre.

Tissue samples that will be collected will depend upon the transplant, but may include: kidney, arterial segments, spleen, pancreas, ureter, skin, uterus or composite tissue. Samples will be collected during the transplant operation. A further kidney biopsy may be taken at a single timepoint post-transplant.

Blood and urine samples will be collected during the donation and transplantation procedures. Further blood and urine samples are taken post-transplant as an in-patient, then at outpatient follow-up visits. A further blood and urine sample will be collected when a post-transplant biopsy is taken.

Consent will be sought at the time of consenting for transplantation or on the day of the transplant procedure, as well as on the day of follow-up visits, and on the day of the post-transplant biopsy procedure.

Blood and tissue samples will be collected from Oxford Transplant Centre patients undergiong dialysis access surgery within the Oxford Transplant Centre catchment area. Tissue samples consist of the AV fistula removed during surgery, which would normally be discarded. Consent is obtained on the day of the procedure.

Additional blood and tissue samples will be collected from uterus transplant recipients during their pregnancy (blood and uterus biopsies), upon delivery of the baby (placenta, umbilical cord and cord blood) and at hysterectomy (uterus biopsies). Consent will be obtained at a post-transplant clinic appointment.

All samples will be stored at the University of Oxford at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals.
