Data collection arrangements
Blood, urine and tissue samples will be collected from living organ donors or transplant recipients (who receive organs from both living organ donor or deceased organ donors) within the Oxford Transplant Centre catchment area.
- Tissues samples that will be collected will depend on what transplant is done, but may include: kidney, bowel, arterial segments, pancreas, ureter, skin or composite tissue This will be collected at the time of transplantation (during living kidney donation, cold storage/perfusion or engraftment of the allograft).
A further kidney biopsy will be taken 6 months post transplantation.- Blood: This will be taken during the transplantation procedure before and after allograft engraftment. A further blood and urine specimen is taken 5 days following transplant. A maximum of 30mls of extra blood will be taken.
- Urine: This will be taken during the transplantation procedure before and after allograft engraftment. A further blood and urine specimen is taken 5 days following transplant.
Consent will be sought at the time of consenting for transplantation and consent re-affirmed for the day 5 post operative blood/urine specimen and the 6 months protocol biopsy.
Blood and tissue samples will be collected from oxford transplant centre patients undergiong dialysis access surgery within the Oxford Transplant Centre catchment area.
- Tissue sample consisting of the removed AV fistula during surgery, which would normally be discarded.
- Blood samples consisting of 4 x 6ml vactainers will be taken at the end of the surgical procedure, before clamps are taken off and at the same time as a clinical blood sample routinely taken.
Research programme
This research will support the Oxford Transplant Centre, part of the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, research community which includes researchers exploring the following areas of research: (1) Organ Donation and donor management (2) Organ Preservation (3) Ischemia Reperfusion injury (4) Immunosupression and tolerance (5) Operative surgical techniques (6) Organ recipient management, including post transplant complication management (7) Management of patients on dialysis
