  • Data collection arrangements

The OVRTB allows service users of Hertility Health or patients at Tissue Collection Centres to donate tissue samples for research, that would otherwise be disposed of as waste. Researchers can store human tissue samples that will contribute to understanding female reproductive health, making new treatments and diagnostic tools. The samples may be from any clinical procedure that is not needed for diagnosis, and they will be asked if they are happy for their samples to be collected and stored. Some of the samples may be stored for future, and as yet unknown research. All research which is carried out will be ethically approved by an independent ethical review committee.

  • Research programme

The OVARI RTB will act as a virtual repository for collections of biological samples and data from Hertility Health service users consented for storage of samples for research, as well as other Tissue Collection Centres (TCC). It will incorporate prospective collections of stored samples and new collections. It provides a unique opportunity to advance female reproductive medical research by making access to samples which are surplus to diagnostic requirements easier, and more efficient, in an infrastructure with a high level of governance and compliant with HTA standards. The researchers who use the samples range from academic researchers who use samples for research that has been funded by charities, government funders and commercial collaborators.
