  • Research summary

Drug related deaths in Scotland have increased by 23% in 2016, 161 more than in 2015 (National Records Scotland, 2016). After Glasgow & Clyde, Ayrshire and Arran, Tayside has the highest rate of drug related deaths in Scotland. There is a large body of evidence indicating the benefits of opiate replacement treatment, however there is less evidence for how opiate replacement treatment is delivered.
The current study aims to examine if increasing regularity of contact and nursing interventions delivered by Non-Medical Prescriber specialist nurses (pharmacological and psychological interventions) improves patient’s treatment outcomes and reduces mortality.
