  • Research summary

This study will investigate throat swab samples that are gonorrhoea positive by an initial test but negative in a confirmatory test. It is currently unknown if initial positive samples that cannot be confirmed are true positive or false positive results. This project will involve collecting 2 additional throat swab samples from patients at the same time as their usual swab is taken. This will allow testing by an alternative more sensitive test and screening of bacterial colonies that grow from the samples to see if any bacteria other than Neisseria gonorrhoeae carry the gene target of the initial test.
