Research summary
This research project aims to better understand how the human immune system works within different tissues of the body. While most current studies focus on immune cells circulating in the blood, many important immune processes actually take place inside organs such as the intestine, skin, or pancreas. This gap in knowledge limits our ability to fully understand and treat diseases like cancer, chronic inflammation, and infections.
In this study, we will focus on a specific type of immune cell called T cells, which play a central role in recognizing and fighting disease. Our goal is to examine how T cells differ between tissues, how they function locally, to identify their antigen-specificities and how they are regulated. We will also study how long these cells remain in tissues and what factors influence their persistence or disappearance.
To do this, we will analyze T cells at the single-cell level using advanced laboratory techniques. Samples will come from human tissues obtained during different routine medical procedures. The research team will acquire the samples from a tissue biobank.
