Research summary
The aim of this study is to explore the perceptions of all stakeholders with regard to the provision of dental care to adults with learning disabilities in North East and North Cumbria via participation in workshops (virtual or in person). Stakeholders will include: people with learning disabilities (and carers); ‘high street’ doctors and dentists; dental healthcare professionals in hospital and community dental services; service commissioners and NHS workforce consultants; and supporting partners/voluntary agencies/charities. This research will be used to inform local service redesign in order to improve the care of these patients in a way that meets their individual needs, reduces barriers to accessing care and utilises the entire dental workforce.
There will be five (virtual or in person with social distancing) workshops (or interviews if the workshops are not appropriate):Workshop 1: people with learning disabilities
Workshop 2: primary care based dental and medical practitioners
Workshop 3: community dental services and secondary care based dental practitioners
Workshop 4: representatives from voluntary agencies/charitable organisation
Workshop 5: NHS commissioners, PHE consultants in dental public health, local authority and CCG representatives.REC name
