Research summary
Multi-point pacing (MPP) is a programming option in patients receiving a cardiac resynchronisation pacemaker. Rather than pacing the heart from a single point, it allows the option of pacing from several points simultaneously. This option is usually left off since data are not clear that this is of benefit and because it has a modest but important effect on battery longevity. We plan to assess whether the option to pace the heart from several points through routinely implanted devices is of benefit on acute contraction power and longer term on exercise capacity in patients with heart failure. This will be the first longer term analysis of the effects of MPP on exercise capacity and heart function.
