Research summary
Perinatal mental health (PMH) problems affect approximately 20% of women. Currently only 30-50% of those women are identified and 7% referred to specialist care. The majority therefore do not access care and this may be particularly the case for women with less commonly recognised problems, such as anxiety and associated disorders.
This application is part of a larger study (MAP Alliance) which aims to examine the care offered to and accessed by women experiencing perinatal anxiety and associated disorders; the impact and cost of that care; as well as inequalities and regional variation from the perspectives of women and healthcare personnel.
The current application is focused only on Work Package 1 (WP1). WP1 will follow up an existing cohort of 1600 women who are currently being followed through pregnancy by the Pregnancy MAP study (20/WS/0065), who gave permission to be contacted again. For the MAP Alliance study, we aim to follow up this cohort of women at 6, 12 and 24 months after birth to determine the health service utilisation, self-report experiences and outcome measures, and health inequalities of women with and without perinatal anxiety and associated disorders.REC name
