Research summary
Over half of the people living with dementia in the UK are in the advanced stages. People living with advanced dementia need help with personal care activities. These
include washing and going to the toilet. Sometimes personal care interactions can be distressing for both the person with dementia and their carers. Refusals of care are common in care-home settings. Guidance calls for more care home staff training for dementia care.
This study aims to examine the acceptability of the OPTIMISED DEMCARE training intervention for care home staff. The training was co-designed to improve personal care assistance for people living with dementia in care homes. The training will be delivered in 2 care homes with researchers observing training sessions and using interviews, feedback and questionnaires to find out the acceptability of the intervention. The research team and co-production group will then refine the intervention ready for further testing.REC name
