Research summary
Continual pressures on the resources of acute hospitals have led to the development of new ways of working. Acute medical assessment units (AMU) specifically for older people are one such development. The aim is for medical plans to be implemented quickly to allow rapid treatment and discharge of appropriate patients. However, discharges are often complex, readmission rates are high and older people’s experiences of the rapid discharge process have not been evaluated. This qualitative interview project aims to answer the research question "what are the experiences of older people who have been discharged within 72 hours from an AMU for older people". The study will take 1 year to complete, and each participant will be interviewed a maximum of 2 times.
